But he quickly made a successful comeback against Jessie Vargas in November, saying he still felt like a youngster. The 29-year-old Horn’s ultra-aggressive style proved too much for Pacquiao, with the three judges scoring the fight 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113 to the Australian after 12 rounds. On Monday, Pacquiao made disparaging comments about his opponent.“He’s not really good but he’s really strong,” Pacquiao said of Horn, as he questioned the decisions of American referee Mark Nelson.“There is no problem with the style of Jeff Horn if he plays dirty, because there is a referee,” Pacquiao said.ADVERTISEMENT China furious as Trump signs bills in support of Hong Kong Pagasa: Kammuri now a typhoon, may enter PAR by weekend Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. Ind vs Ire: Yuvraj shines as India win by five wickets

first_imgYuvraj Singh excelled in both departments of the game as India restored the ‘minnows’ tag upon Ireland, that had been removed post their win over England. Score | PhotosYuvraj scalped five wickets and then scored an unbeaten 50 during the World Cup Group B match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Sunday. He earned the Man-of-the-Match award for his efforts.Chasing a meagre 208, India put 210 on board with Yusuf Pathan hitting a four off the last ball off the 46th over to finish off the match with four overs remaining.Ireland didn’t put up a large score on board but their players were in no mood to give India an easy outing. And Trent Johnston went according to the plan, scalping Virender Sehwag on the first ball of the second over, taking his catch off his own over. He fell for five and India went down to 9-1.They pressed on and Gautam Gambhir too fell. And once again it was Johnston to the fore. Gambhir wanted to clear it past the short fine leg, but Alex Cusack cut short his shot and Gambhir fell for 11 and the India scorecard read 24/2 in 5.2 overs.Unfortunately for the Ireland team, Johnston injured his knee while bowling the 10th over of the innings. He completed his over, but left the field soon after that. Then Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli got on with a partnership. And just when the Irish fans were beginning to lose hope Tendulkar fell to 18-year old left-arm spinner George Dockrell on 38 with an LBW written against his initials. A clean and straight delivery hit Tendulkar on the thigh when he was trying to go for a sweep shot. Tendulkar’s 63-run third wicket stand with Kohli helped India to 87/3.Then it was celebration time for the Irish fans, for India lost their fourth wicket in a jiffy with Virat Kohli getting run out when the India score was 100. He scored 34.But with a deep batting line-up India had nothing to fear. Soon Yuvraj Singh and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni forged a partnership to push the score from 100/4 to 167/5. The fifth wicket was that of skipper Dhoni, who fell to Dockrell on 34 in very much the same fashion as Sachin Tendulkar had departed with an LBW against his name. Then it was Yusuf Pathan’s turn to hit his famous over the fence shots and up the scoring rate by a mile. He hit two sixes off Dockrell to drive home that point that India’s win was round the corner. In the 45th over India decided to take the Powerplay and raise the tempo and wrap up the innings early. That they did in the 46th over with 210 runs on board.Ireland inningsIndian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl and it was Yuvraj Singh, who benefited by the decision finishing with a five-wicket haul as Ireland folded to 207.Earlier, India pacer Zaheer Khan bowled out Ireland’s Paul Stirling and Ed Joyce to stamp his class early in the match.First Zaheer got the better of Stirling with a quickish delivery that caved in and before the batsman could realise what had happened his stumps were off. He fell for a duck. Then in the third over of the innings, Zaheer struck again to send back Ed Joyce on 4, with skipper Dhoni performing the final rites behind the stumps. Ireland slumped to 9-2. But, post those two wickets, Ireland skipper William Porterfield and Niall O’Brien got on with a good partnership. They rotated the strike well to fox the India bowlers. Every lose ball was sent past the boundary while the good ones were nicely defended. But Niall O’Brien’s run out upset the Irish team’s plans. A loose ball from Harbhajan Singh was driven towards the covers by Porterfield, who started off for a run. But Virat Kohli showed impressive agility on the field and threw the ball towards keeper MS Dhoni, who removed the bails off and Niall was short of his crease. He fell for 46 after forging a fine 113-run partnership with Porterfield. Ireland slumped to 122/3 in the 27th over. It was the right time for the India bowlers to press further and they went according to the plan as Yuvraj Singh claimed the next man Andrew White with skipper Dhoni taking a regulation catch behind the stumps. White scored 5 and Ireland went down to 129/4.Kevin O’Brien, the man who scored the fastest century of the World Cup in the previous match against England, was still at the crease and that gave some hope to their fans. The hopes were short-lived as Yuvraj Singh struck again and this time he got rid of Kevin taking a fine catch off his own bowling in the 34th over. He fell for 9 when the Ireland score was 147.   But Yuvraj was hungry for more and this time he accounted for opposition skipper William Porterfield. But it wasn’t a delivery that would make a bowler proud of, yet it got the most wanted wicket in the Irish camp. A short ball that was turning slowly was hit hard by Porterfield, but it failed to go past the covers where Harbhajan Singh took a fine catch to send the batsman back on 75 and the Ireland score read 160/6.By now Yuvraj was on song and he claimed John Mooney on 5 trapping him leg before to increase his victims list to four. But, there was more to follow as Alex Cusack too fell and he too became a victim of Yuvraj’s turners. This was Yuvraj’s fifth wicket of the day.Post Mooney’s wicket, things became easy for India bowlers and they tightened the noose. Soon Ireland batting line-up folded on 207 in the 48th over.advertisementadvertisementlast_img read more

Will Poonam Pandey strip at all?

first_imgClick to see more picsModel Poonam Pandey who created a stir in the media by announcing that she will bare it all if India wins the World Cup is nowhere to be seen now.As per reports, Poonam’s phone is switched off and her family members are claiming that her declaration wasn’t for cheap publicity but was a genuine offer. After creating a hype, the 19-year-old model has disappointed many, who were waiting for her to fulfill her promise. She has also written to the cricket board seeking permission for the same. A letter to the BCCI reads: “I am ready and willing at any place and time of the Indian team choosing to go in the nude to boost their sporting spirit to perform better. This I say seriously, as there are many studies conducted by various universities abroad which confirms and infers that such performances/expectations boost and inspire people to perform better in any field, be it sports or otherwise. Even medical books on psychology and psychiatry confirm this. “Cricket is a religion in India. Should India lose the World Cup it would demoralise crores of Indians and people may react violently in some places.”It is therefore my humble request to allow me to perform in the privacy of the Indian cricket team’s dressing room or any other place of your choosing. (you may also choose a foreign land, so that the laws of india -if a hindrance, do not apply) “This shall be a private therapeutic performance -with a psychologist’s presence and hence cannot be an offence under any law if the team members have no objection and the BCCI gives the go ahead.”advertisementThe model is keen, but, is ensuring that she doesn’t get into any legal tangle. So, she has mentioned in her letter: “Only appearing in the nude in public is an offense but in private with consenting adults for a therapeutic purpose is no offense.”Let’s see if Poonam Pandey keeps her promise.last_img read more

first_imgThe officials said Jennifer Lopez cannot perform at Thursday’s event as earlier plannedJennifer Lopez won’t perform the World Cup’s official song alongside fellow artists Pitbull and Claudia Leitte during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Brazil, FIFA officials said Sunday.Soccer’s governing body said Lopez cannot perform at Thursday’s event as earlier planned because of unspecified “production issues.”The singer’s representatives didn’t explain the reason why Lopez wouldn’t be joining the act. They only confirmed the announcement in an emailed response, saying “regretfully Jennifer Lopez will not be attending this year’s World Cup opening ceremonies.”FIFA said in a news release that Cuban-American rapper Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte will sing the official tune “We Are One” before Brazil takes on Croatia at Thursday’s opening game in Sao Paulo. The song has let down many Brazilians who complain that it sounds too generic for the nation’s Bossa Nova-crazed audiences and that it features foreign musicians singing mostly in English and Spanish.
