About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your say Man Utd must emulate Liverpool with £100m move for Koulibaly – Mayby Freddie Taylor10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United should spend £100m on Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to David May.Koulibably has emerged as United’s prime defensive target, but Napoli are not letting him leave on the cheap. But May says the money would be justified given Koulibaly’s talents, citing Virgil van Dijk’s impact at Liverpool since his world-record move last January.Former Red Devils star May told 888sport: “If you look at United over the last God knows how many years they’ve always gone out and broke transfer records if need be.”They did with Rio [Ferdinand], [Angel] Di Maria, [Paul] Pogba, [Romelu] Lukaku. They allegedly pay [Alexis] Sanchez half a million a week.”If you want the best players then you have to pay top money for them. City do it.”Liverpool did it with Van Dijk and just look at the transformation.”They spent £70 million on a goalkeeper, which is a hell of a lot of money but what that gets you back is guaranteed Champions League football and the possibility of winning the Premier League.”The amount of money United earn then to spend £100m on a defender….so what?”Real Madrid will spend it. Barca will. Chelsea and City will.”If it guarantees you a much better defence then go ahead and spend it.”If Koulibaly becomes available – and there are rumours that he is interested with a fee of £90m – then I’m sure Ole would say he’d be a great signing for Man Utd.”

Vine/Chris VanniniOakland’s Max Hooper is one of the most unique players in all of college basketball. The Golden Grizzlies’ gunner has hit 102-of-229 shots this season, and every single attempt has come from beyond the three point arc. On senior night against Detroit, after scoring 12 points in a 108-97 win, Hooper ran into the stands after the game to see his father Chip, who suffered a stroke in October and has been battling cancer for years. This is one of the most touching college basketball videos you’ll see this year.Video of Max Hooper going into the crowd to see his dad. https://t.co/xuSEQ0H2bN— Chris Vannini (@ChrisVannini) February 27, 2016ESPN has longer video of the emotional moment here.Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free-Press wrote a great story about Max and his father after the game.“It’s something we both embody, that will, that we won’t be denied,” Max said. “Him being here tonight is such a moment. You can’t replicate this moment. It comes around once in a lifetime. He didn’t promise me but said I’m going to be at a game. I believed he would.”Oakland finishes the year 21-10, and second in the Horizon league heading into the conference tournament.
BATON ROUGE, LA – OCTOBER 17: Leonard Fournette #7 of the LSU Tigers walks off the field after defeating the Florida Gators 35-28 at Tiger Stadium on October 17, 2015 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images)Leonard Fournette is skipping the Citrus Bowl, and today he had a perfect response to critics: a picture of his daughter.Fournette and Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey have come under fire for skipping their respective bowl games to focus on NFL Draft preparation, despite support from the teammates and coaches that many argue they are letting down. Fournette has heard that criticism loud and clear, and doesn’t care, because his decision is about more than just him.In response, he tweeted a pretty perfect message this afternoon, featuring a picture of his young daughter, Lyric.Only person I owe something too….. pic.twitter.com/QaLDGDC9Nw— 7⃣ Leonard Fournette (@_fournette) December 20, 2016Leonard Fournette has dealt with injuries virtually all season, and while LSU would obviously love to win the game, the stakes are pretty low. The Tigers are not playing for a championship, and Ed Orgeron is not coaching for his job. The team also has a more-than-capable replacement in Derrius Guice, who was a first-team All-SEC performer this year, despite splitting time with Fournette when he was healthy. On Fournette’s side, aggravating his injuries can only hurt him, especially considering he is likely to be the first running back taken. Considering how short the shelf-life for running backs is at the next level, his desire to be as healthy as possible heading into his NFL career is easily the best choice for he and his family. And for LSU, winning or losing this Citrus Bowl does little to alter the trajectory of the program.
Frank Lampard has been urged to consider bringing in Jose Mourinho alongside him if he does end up taking the managerial reins at Chelsea, with Tony Cascarino suggesting that an experienced head will be required.Having spent 11 years at Stamford Bridge during his playing days, the former Blues midfielder knows all about life at Stamford Bridge.Lampard is, however, just one season into a coaching career that he opened at Derby in the summer of 2018. He is now being mooted as the leading candidate to succeed Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea should the Italian decide to head home and replace Massimiliano Allegri at Serie A champions Juventus.Lampard would be a popular appointment among supporters, but Cascarino believes a dream team with former boss Mourinho taking on an advisory role could serve the Blues even better. The ex-Chelsea striker told talkSPORT: “I was always told, and I think it’s spot on, that if you’re a young manager you should get someone in upstairs who is very experienced, someone who knows how to speak to directors and owners.“The obvious candidate, because he’s out of work, would be Jose Mourinho.“The trouble is, we don’t know where Jose is with his relationships, because he has broken a few. His relationship has been severed with Chelsea and I don’t know his relationship with Frank Lampard.“But I’d like to feel he would assist someone who he helped develop in his career and won things with. He’s the sort of person you would want in above you.“Could I see that happening? No, because of his relationship with Chelsea and the way he was sacked in his second stint with the club.“But you need someone who goes in above Frank with huge experience, who can deal with board room, deal with the issues from the owner and just be a buffer for you in many different ways.“All the staff around Frank are all relatively new to these roles.“Jose is going to have to find himself a way back in. He’s said he still wants to be a manager, but Frank needs someone who has experienced a hell of a lot.“A Carlo Ancelotti, a Claudio Ranieri, even his uncle Harry Redknapp – someone of that stature who might not be working who he can employ and have above him to help him.“Not a director of football, more as a guide, someone who is going to lead him and nurture him in management.“This is still a learning curve for Frank Lampard and a hugely experienced guy who has been around the block can be very helpful to you.“It’s a weird one, I’m throwing Jose out there which seems a no-goer. But I’m talking about having someone upstairs who would make your job a lot easier with the owners and directors, having someone who is batting your corner.“I was using Jose as an example, but the problem in that example is Jose.“I don’t even know where Frank’s relationship is with Jose, I was just giving an example of a type of people who could come in above him.”Mourinho, who has been out of work since leaving Manchester United in December 2018, has expressed a desire to take on a new role this summer, but it is expected that he will seek to return to the dugout as a leading man rather than an assistant. Mexico attacker Uriel Antuna has gone from not being on the Gold Cup roster to starting in the final. After being added to the roster as an injury replacement before the tournament for Jorge Sanchez, Antuna opened the Gold Cup with a hat trick against Cuba. While he didn’t start El Tri’s semifinal victory over Haiti, he came on as a substitute and had a positive impact off the bench.Other than Antuna’s inclusion in the starting XI, El Tri manager Tata Martino has left his squad unchanged for the final against the United States at Solider Field. That leaves Nestor Araujo on the bench once again. It’s a Clasico Regio group of fullbacks with Rayados left back Jesus Gallardo and Tigres right back Luis “Chaka” Rodriguez on the other side. Rodriguez has not excelled in the knockout round, leading fans to advocate he be replaced by Fernando Navarro, but Martino is sticking with the player he’s started at the spot in the majority of matches so far.In the midfield, Andres Guardado captains the team from the left side with Jonathan dos Santos again starting on the right. The LA Galaxy midfielder had been locked in a back-and-forth battle with Monterrey midfielder Carlos Rodriguez for the spot but started all three knockout round matchups.Alongside Antuna up top is No. 9 Raul Jimenez and Rodolfo Pizarro. Pizarro typically plays a more central role with his club but has adapted well to the winger role Martino is asking him to play. That said, Pizarro still has drifted into the middle of the field as well to try and create chances when the opportunity presents itself.El Tri are yet to lose a single contest in the Martino era, which began in January, but face a United States team that has allowed just one goal during the course of the Gold Cup.Mexico XI: Ochoa; Rodriguez, Salcedo, Moreno, Gallardo; Dos Santos, Alvarez, Guardado; Antuna, Jimenez, Pizarro
